Abstract
This project arises from the study of how students interact with their peers at Isaac A. Chico Elementary School located in Cuenca - Ecuador. In fact, the objective is to implement a system of teaching and extra-teaching activities in the area of Language and Literature for the development of social skills in Middle School students. For this reason, the six social skills presented by Soto (2009) are adopted: self-control, justified expression of displeasure, empathy, attachment, communication and assertiveness, which allow solving problems, expressing feelings, rights and/or decisions; they are even related to school, social and personal adjustment that influence the evolution of childhood, adolescence and adult life. On the other hand, students who are rejected for not developing social skills have fewer social contacts, and, as a consequence, fewer opportunities to learn new social skills. For the development of this research, a qualitative approach has been used. This meets the characteristics of the type of Action Research (AI), with which the educational reality is studied, its understanding is improved and is achieved a transformation in the educational institution. For the collection of information, the techniques used were: participant observation, sociometric technique, social skills scale (EHS). All the obtained information allowed teachers in the Language and Literature area to have a system of teaching and extra-teaching activities that can contribute to the development of social skills to improve social relations among students.
