Abstract
The development of scientific skills in the area of Natural Sciences is important to be able to think like critical scientists. For this reason, it is necessary to implement a variety of methodological strategies that contribute to the achievement of certain skills, as established by the Ecuadorian National Curriculum and in order to achieve the basic level established by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, in the report PISA, rated at level 2, which establishes that the desired level is not achieved in Ecuador. That is why this research is focused on identifying which methodological strategies are applied for the development of scientific skills in students of the fifth year of Basic General Education in the area of Natural Sciences of the Dominican Private Educational Unit "San Luis Beltrán" , a study that has an interpretive character, based on the qualitative approach, and for the collection of information, a teacher interview, student surveys and non participant observation were applied, later the respective analysis of each one was carried out and with it the triangulation, deducing that the teacher uses a single methodological strategy for the development of skills such as observing, investigating and analyzing.
