Abstract
The objective of the research is to propose a system of activities based on bimodal communication to stimulate the development of expressive language in a student with intellectual disability of the fourth year of General Basic Education of the Special Educational Unit Agustín Cueva Tamariz. In order to respond to the problem, a theoretical approach related to the development of expressive language in students with intellectual disabilities was developed to support the research. The methodology is based on the interpretative paradigm, a qualitative approach and a single case study method, centered on a student with intellectual disabilities. In addition, the following techniques were selected as techniques: participant observation, semi- structured interview and document analysis, and as instruments: field diaries, interview guide and document analysis guide, applied for the collection and interpretation of information and contrasted through data triangulation, based on the indicators and subcategories of the category of analysis: expressive language. The result showed that the student presents difficulties in the development of all the components of expressive language, manifested in a scarce vocabulary and in the production of words in an imitative way; likewise, it was found that she does not receive adequate stimulation. In order to solve these difficulties, a system of activities based on bimodal communication was designed, as an alternative and augmentative system of communication, which seeks to increase the lexicon of the student, through activities that stimulate the development process in the acquisition of expressive language.
