Abstract
The gender approach is a strategic and technical option to formulate means, mechanisms, regulations and guidelines that help broaden respect for diversity and reduce gender inequities. Different states and organizations of various types promote the production of public policy with a gender approach, Ecuador is no exception. In the school field, the academic discussion is wide on how to address the gender issue, however, in some educational institutions there are regulations, practices and speeches that legitimize the gaps. Therefore, the following work builds five axes to reformulate the “Plan de Convivencia Armónica Institucional” with a gender focus, at the "Luis Cordero Crespo" School. The research process is structured in two moments: (1) analysis, to investigate gender conceptions and ideas within the educational community; and, (2) proposal, to structure axes that serve as a guide to include the gender approach into the “Plan de Convivencia”. We work with a qualitative approach to educational research. The tools for the inquiry process were: descriptive analysis of the current “Plan de Convivencia”; focus groups with authorities and students; and, interviews with representatives of the commission responsible for the creation of the mentioned Plan. The analysis allowed us to identify five axes to work on the gender approach: (1) the importance of family and representatives; (2) sexism and stereotypes; (3) sexual and family diversity; (4) preponderance of respect; (5) ideas to encourage gender discussion in school. Based on these axes, we built a proposal for a Guide for the reformulation of the Coexistence Plan, specifically, in two of its areas: a) respect among all community actors and b) respect for diversity.
