Abstract
This document summarizes a proposal based on a methodology called Problem-Based Learning (PBL) for problems with rational numbers within the area of Mathematics described in Unit 1 “Rational numbers in sport” in the 8th-year classroom of Basic General Education of the Educational Unit "Luis Cordero". This work assumes the statement of Fortea (2009) regarding a didactic strategy, which requires being able to logically analyze a problem to find its solution and does not help a better development of the teaching-learning process in the classroom. The methodology uses the qualitative paradigm, focused on the systematization of experiences based on pre professional practice. Qualitative techniques such as: observation, field diaries, observation guide are integrated. Which facilitate the teaching-learning process. This allows teachers in the area of mathematics, in the eighth year, to recognize the effects of the use of the PBL methodology. To develop skills such as problem solving, and that these are specified with the development of mathematical thinking involving the fraction and its meanings
