Abstract
This work addresses the problem of the development of reading comprehension, from the theoretical pedagogical principles of the communicative approach. This is a didactic innovation project in the area of Language and Literature, which was carried out with 32 girls and boys in the fifth grade. From the perspective of the Ecuadorian curriculum, reading is comprehension and communication; there are many difficulties in developing these skills in the daily classroom, from this curricular principle. The objective of this work was to develop reading comprehension skills in the fifth year of Basic Education, classroom "A" of the Febres Cordero Educational Unit, through a didactic strategy appropriate to the communicative approach. This is a qualitative, socio-critical approach research. The main method used is participatory action research. Techniques were used: participant observation, bibliographic review, interview, survey and didactic design. Among the main results is the design and implementation of a didactic strategy, whose results were the improvement of the reading comprehension of the students with whom the study was carried out.
