Abstract
The objective of this case study is to report on formative and summative experiences and evaluations by taking exams designed to be applied with Kahoot! in a Calculus course in higher education at a public university in Mexico. With the help of the Item Response Theory, an improvement in the designs is proposed since the difficulty indices of the items were obtained, and the exams were also validated by checking their internal consistency. The results of the study suggested that the participants were very positive about the use of the exam platform, supporting the formative and summative evaluation in a playful way in terms of attitudinal aspects, skills, and knowledge in Calculus. It is concluded that Kahoot! is a powerful complementary tool by providing an effective summative and formative assessment platform that produces favorable results.
