Abstract
This project applied Project Based Learning (PBL) with students in the 6th year of General Basic Education at the UECIB "Tupak Yupanki" to develop a Bilingual E-booklet of Kichwa-Saraguro’s Ancestral Knowledge which allows revaluing the ancestral knowledge of the indigenous people in the Oñacapac community. This digital booklet has three components: Socio-cultural experiences, signs of nature and medicinal plants, which are exposed on a free access website. This bilingual E-booklet has been evaluated through the Expert Judgment and a Likert scale, measuring its pedagogical potential to reinforce the Kichwa-Saraguro Ancestral Knowledge. The research aroused from the need to contextualize the curriculum and revalue the ancestral knowledge of this native pre-Columbian people of Ecuador, as it is proposed by the MOSEIB (2013), with the active participation of the students of the 6th year of the UECIB "Tupak Yupanki" applying the active didactics of Project Based Learning. Through PBL students acquired research skills and by including local knowledge in contextualized planning, they help to preserve community cultural practices. By so doing, students strengthen their Kichwa’s speaking skills and its cultural identity creating conditions to develop meaningful learning for them-selves. All this experience intensifies their knowledge and skills on the investigation of ancestral knowledge, encourage the improvement of problem-solving skills and the execution of autonomous work. The research design was field-based with a qualitative approach inspired by the Participatory Action Research. Also, the tools and research strategies used were interviews, conversations and field diaries, for the collection of information, with active participation of teachers, students, parents and key informants from the community. The results point out a higher student’s participation and the improvement of their research skills, digital and linguistic competences, thus generating the appropriation, revaluation, strengthening and creation of their own knowledge.
