Abstract
This investigation arose from the experiences observed during the pre-professional practices, initially, from the results obtained from the initial evaluation applied to the students of the sixth year of EGB of the Educational Unit "Juan Montalvo", reflecting the need to work the Proficiency with Performance Criterion M.3.1.5 because students had trouble understanding place value, essential for arithmetic calculation and general problem-solving. The objective was to apply a system of activities with differentiated reinforcement according to the levels of achievement obtained by the students to improve performance. With an interpretive paradigm, the research used a qualitative approach applying the action-research method (Hernández et al, 2014). Data were obtained through participant observation, semi-structured interviews, field diaries, pre-test, and post-test. The didactic proposal was based on the Game-Based Learning methodology (González, 2015) covering the topics of place value with numbers of more than 4 digits, arithmetic operations, problem-solving, multiples, and divisors. In addition, reinforcement classes were carried out with differentiated activities through contextualized exercises with which the students participated actively. After the application of the proposal, the analysis of the results showed that 75% of the students made significant progress in their performance, raising the levels of achievement initially found.
