Abstract
The present research is focused on improving student reading comprehension performance on the subject of Language and Literature. For this reason, a didactic proposal was designed with playful teaching strategies to develop reading comprehension on 5th grade students of the Unidad Educativa Comunitaria Intercultural Bilingüe Fisco misional “Mushuk Kawsay”. Through participant observation, it was detected that the students did not have a reading comprehension of the texts presented by their teacher. The research had a field design with a qualitative approach. A pre-test was carried out on the students when they were in the 4th grade of Basic, establishing their level of reading comprehension, and a post-test was carried out on the same group studying the 5th grade, to establish improvements in their reading comprehension ability after the application of the pedagogical proposal. The results obtained were positive because the students increased their reading comprehension, vocabulary, and use of punctuation marks. In addition, the importance of reading is highlighted as an essential habit inside and outside the educational institution.
