Abstract
This work refers to Comprehensive Reading through Latin American Contemporary Literature, with the implementation of a didactic unit for the tenth year of the "Mariana de Jesús" Educational Unit, which presents various methodological strategies that promote reading comprehension of texts. The objective is to broaden the student’s knowledge through the correct application of processes for the reading comprehension of narrative literary texts, emphasizing the Latin American story, identifying its elements and characteristics to initiate the critical appraisal of literature. Among the results obtained there is evidence of greater participation, motivation, interest and taste for reading, the performance of entertaining, motivating activities, facilitate the understanding of literary texts and contribute to the critical and reflective analysis of them. The development of the unit in an organized and dynamic manner represents a great support to the generation of significant learning.
