Abstract
Reading influences students' learning and has a close relationship with reading comprehension and academic performance, as is the case of fifth grade students of the "Manuel Muñoz Cordero" school. The objective of this study is to design a didactic guide through reading cards based on legends, for the improvement of reading comprehension in fifth grade students of General Basic Education. The methodology of this project has a mixed approach, with a type of applied research and a socio-critical paradigm. The techniques used were participant observation, interview, questionnaire and satisfaction survey. The use of instruments such as the field diary, test and rubric served to measure the students' reading level and the relevance of this research. Among the theoretical contributions that contributed to the research are Ostaiza et al. (2022) with the didactic guide, Vásquez (2022) for reading comprehension and Gallegos (2021) with the reading card. The main result was that the students improved their reading comprehension, in their posttest answers they demonstrated that they recognized the key information of a written text, they made interpretations based on the reading and their critical position was argued with value judgments. As for the conclusion, it can be mentioned that the design and application of the didactic guide becomes a path to improve reading comprehension.
