Abstract
Basic social skills are behaviors that are considered appropriate for social interaction, if a person does not manage to develop these skills, they could have difficulties to relate with their peers. Therefore, the main objective of this research is to propose an intervention program to facilitate the development of basic social skills in students with moderate intellectual disability associated with Down syndrome at the preparatory level of the Unidad Educativa Especial Manuela Espejo. This research makes use of the intrinsic case study method, it is descriptive, it assumes an interpretive paradigm and a qualitative approach. The unit of analysis is made up of students with moderate intellectual disability associated with Down syndrome. The information collection instruments that were used were the student observation guide, the teacher interview guide, the parent survey, and triangulation of data was used to contrast the gotten information. The obtained results showed that the students present a deficit in the basic social skills of greeting, saying goodbye, asking for a favor, giving thanks and introducing themselves. These results were used to develop the intervention proposal that stimulates the acquisition of basic social skills and this proposal was evaluated through the experts judgment, who rated it as relevant and of quality.
