Abstract
The Curricular Integration project "Cognitive strengthening through artistic activities in the subject of Language and Literature" was developed at the Miguel Merchan Ochoa Educational Unit, province of Azuay, Ecuador. Aimed at second-year students of the Unified General Baccalaureate, the study sought to improve cognitive skills through pedagogical strategies in the areas of Language and Literature (L.L) and Cultural Artistic Education (ECA). Field diaries, question guides and photographic records were used as research instruments. The focus was on the use of artistic activities and pedagogical strategies to strengthen students' understanding and expression, identifying difficulties in writing, reading, and understanding texts. Participatory Action Research (PAR) was adopted to address these issues, promoting critical thinking and the development of linguistic and literary skills. The project was based on the importance of cognitive development in high school students and the potential of the arts to contribute to said development. Didactic strategies were proposed with the aim of strengthening cognitive skills and promoting meaningful learning. Problems were identified in writing, reading and understanding texts, affecting the academic performance and comprehensive training of students. The proposed pedagogical strategies sought to address these difficulties, promoting reflective and critical learning.
