Abstract
This research focuses on the application of a system of recreational activities, to strengthen reading comprehension, in the fifth year ¨B¨ of Basic General Education, of the Educational Unit ¨República del Ecuador. This research comes from the experiences of educational intervention, carried out during two periods of professional training (Pre-professional Practices). From the problem observed in the various educational contexts, the low level of reading comprehension of the students was evidenced. For this reason, this research aims for students to improve their reading comprehension skills, through playful activities, in such a way that they can understand the texts they read, as well as develop their ability to be critical and therefore improve their academic performance. It should be noted that this research focused on the opinions of Freire and Carlino who state that reading and its comprehension are very important within the teaching-learning process, since it allows students to develop the ability to be critical and to relate everything read with their daily experiences, in order to understand the world that surrounds them and appropriate knowledge that will be useful for their daily lives. Therefore, the proposal entitled "Understanding the world of reading" was implemented, which consists of playful activities to strengthen reading comprehension, creating an optimal learning environment within the classroom, with the purpose of becoming a tool helpful in overcoming these difficulties. In addition, in this research, the research-action methodology was used, which allowed us to observe and analyze the reality of the classroom. Following this idea, the data collection instruments allowed the collection of information necessary to establish a starting point for the application of the activities, which were created according to the needs and tastes of the students. In this way, it is intended to encourage reading so that they correctly develop reading comprehension skills. In this sense, this research shows the changes that took place from the implementation of the proposal and how students are involved in the teaching-learning process.
