Abstract
The purpose of this paper is to highlight the relevance of ancestral knowledge at the initial educational level, as well as to emphasize its benefits as a means to develop the construction of a cultural identity, respect for diverse cultures and environmental awareness by children at that level. It is based on theoretical foundations exposed by several authors and it also takes into account various manifestations described in public policies at the global and local level, which underline the importance of the practical applicability of these issues. In accordance with ancestral knowledge, the importance of generating a historical consciousness and a consciousness that produces a reflection and analysis of events that occurred in the past and their relationship with present events, as well as making explicit their relationship with the construction of a cultural identity, in children of the aforementioned educational level, is also highlighted. The aim is to achieve these goals by means of a qualitative methodology that underlines and interprets the subjectivity of ancestral practices. In addition, the methodology is articulated through active learning, which emphasizes the direct involvement and enjoyment of the participants. In this sense, several recreational dynamics are proposed, such as the telling of stories and folk tales and the employment of some traditional games. Likewise, it is proposed that these dynamics be jointly developed, between the family and the school, so that they participate in the strengthening of cultural knowledge through the exchange of experience. As a result of this process, the revitalization, through play, of a series of ancestral practices, which in contemporary times have been frequently discontinued, is evidenced, as well as the necessity of keeping them alive for the current generations.
