Abstract
This research focused on the design, implementation and evaluation of a program of playful activities to stimulate the proprioceptive system as a precondition for the development of pre-Braille in a visually impaired child in the first year of Basic General Education at the Claudio Neira Garzón Special Education Unit. The study was based on a theoretical foundation that highlights the importance of the adequate development and stimulation of the proprioceptive system for the learning and mastery of pre-Braille skills in children with visual impairment. Regarding the methodological framework, a socio-critical approach was adopted based on action-research to characterize the level of proprioceptive development for the child's pre-Braille and to design a program of playful activities designed for their needs. Therefore, the program of playful activities included different thematic axes such as body awareness, tactile discrimination and manual dexterity. In addition, these play activities were intended to stimulate and promote the development of pre-Braille skills. The implementation of the program proved to be effective, evidencing significant improvements in the participating child. In conclusion, this study provided evidence on the relevance of early stimulation of the proprioceptive system and its impact on the development of pre-Braille skills, which has relevant implications for the educational and social inclusion of students with visual impairments.
