Abstract
The intervention is aimed at improving students' oral expression using augmentative and alternative communication systems, which result in being able to pronounce words, phrases, sentences and allow them to communicate ideas or needs with words. This proposal arises thanks to the research and participant observation generated during the process of pre-professional practices, developed in the Special Educational Unit "Agustin Cueva Tamariz", located in the city of Cuenca, in the 1st "B" EGB of the autism program, this classroom has 5 students which are divided into 4 boys and 1 girl. Within the unit of analysis, it became evident that the students could not communicate effectively when engaging in a conversation, due to the fact that their oral expression is very limited, causing difficulties in transmitting their concerns or basic needs. The approach used was a group case study with a sociocritical paradigm, the techniques were: field diaries, participant observation, semi-structured interview and data triangulation. All these documents made it possible to verify the difficulties of the language, as well as its strengths and ways of working. The developed intervention works through Pictotechnology, which has the function of combining technology with pictograms through a pictographic keyboard, which aims to interact with students and in turn improve their oral expression, taking into account learning factors such as the interest of students, and their previous knowledge in relation to communication through pictograms.
