Abstract
This research focused on the topic of reading and writing and the methods used for its development and consolidation, to deepen this knowledge the objective was set: to design an innovative educational application to strengthen the teaching-learning process of reading and writing skills in students of the second grade of the "Isidro Ayora Educational Unit of the Paute Canton". A qualitative approach methodology was developed through the interpretative paradigm. The scope was descriptive and the type of research was non-experimental and cross-sectional. A total of 6 key informants participated, who work as teachers of the second year of primary school in the aforementioned institution, to whom the interview was applied through the zoom tool. The information collected was organized by coding and categorizing it. The most relevant findings revealed that the teaching-learning process of reading and writing developed by these teachers corresponds to the implementation of various methods: syllabic, phonological and eclectic, or a combination thereof. They also use multiple resources and strategies to build their own didactics according to the characteristics of the children, in the same way, they are willing to learn about other methods that are more up-to-date with technology and digitalization. It was concluded that there is a need to advance in creative proposals such as digital applications, from which the product of this research emerged: the Búholector app.
