Abstract
This research proposes a system of activities to help improve language development in a child with intellectual disabilities in the second year of elementary school at the Agustín Cueva Tamariz Specialized Educational Unit. This study began with the identification of a unique case study, J.D., a 7 year old boy, diagnosed with intellectual disability, presents a language development disorder secondary to mental retardation. The research is qualitative in approach, using the case study method. The information was collected from different sources: interview, documentary analysis, field diary and a direct observation form. The results of the research showed that J.D. presents difficulties in language, especially in: rotacism, difficulty in distinguishing vowels, problems in syntax and lack of use of grammatical connectors. In order to respond to the results obtained, a system of ludic activities based on the logopedic approach was designed. The conclusions reached by this research show that language represents an essential tool for the integral development of individuals, allowing the expression of thoughts, emotions and facilitating their interaction in the social environment. Likewise, the proposal of a system of activities with a ludic approach adapted to the needs of children with intellectual disabilities was created as a promising strategy to improve their linguistic and communicative skills.
