Abstract
This research focuses on the creation of a proposal that combines gamification and technological tools, inspired by the 8 elements of Yu-Kai-Chou (2019), with the purpose of strengthening number-quantity understanding up to the number 10 in the field of logical-mathematical relationships in early education. The methodology is based on the socio-critical paradigm with a qualitative approach and was carried out with 27 students aged 4 to 5 years from the “Eloy Alfaro” School of Basic Education. Techniques such as the field diary, observation and checklist were used to evaluate both the students' initial numerical skills and the teachers' perceptions about the importance of developing skills through gamification. The main findings pointed out the need to reinforce basic numerical skills, in particular counting and the number-quantity relationship. The application of the gamified proposal based on the Octalysis methodology demonstrated to improve the motivation and commitment of students. Despite challenges, such as access to technology, this study highlights the potential of gamification to foster active and meaningful learning in mathematics. In the final evaluation, a significant improvement was evident after the implementation of the proposal. Additionally, teachers' perceptions reflected a positive impact. Therefore, the proposal based on gamification and technological tools was effective in improving the understanding of the number-quantity relationship in early education students.
