Abstract
The purpose of this research was to design a didactic strategy that promotes the learning of vocabulary in English within the area of Natural Sciences in the third grade. The research was carried out from a qualitative approach through Action Research in the third year of basic education at the Ángel Polivio Chávez school in Cuenca city. In this sense, direct observation was developed, and the information was recorded in field diaries for six weeks. The observations allowed the diagnosis of the factors that affect the process of teaching vocabulary in English. Subsequently, a thorough review of the theories and previous research on the processes of teaching - learning vocabulary of English as a foreign language (EFL) was carried out to determine different didactic strategies that can be used in this process. Then, an interview was conducted with three teachers of the elementary basic sublevel to determine their perspective on this subject from their experience. Based on the analysis of the information obtained from the different sources, the didactic strategy that allows the teaching of vocabulary in English to be mainstreamed from the subject of Natural Sciences was improved. It was concluded that the didactic strategies must be developed using objects from the environment in which they are carried out, for which the subject of Natural Sciences turns out to be the most relevant to carry out this mainstreaming due to the curricular contents that it possesses.
