Abstract
The current trends in tourism demand tourist guides' work, since they offer a service that, from their role, transform them into an interpreter of heritage. This professional is a mediator who creates connections between heritage and visitors. The theoretical systematization and the results of diagnoses generated in this study allowed to identify theoretical gaps and insufficiencies of the professional practice of guides in relation to the heritage interpretation, which, together with the absence of solution proposals from the professional improvement, gave rise to the scientific problem. For its solution, a general objective was proposed: to create a strategy for professiona improvement in heritage interpretation for tourist guides, while conducting guided tours. The proposed strategy is supported by a theoretical-methodological conception, contextualized according to diagnosis particularities. This strategy is structured in four stages, applied to pedagogical situations, in accordance with its general objective and through the sequenced and integrated application of forms of professional improvement, that contribute to the preparation of the guide for the development of competence. In this context, three forms of improvement were selected: a course, training, and self-improvement.
