Abstract
The present investigation is developed in the context of Unidad Educativa Remigio Romero y Cordero form Cuenca city in the Eighth B of Basic General Education. The development of reading comprehension allows students to interpret reading from their perspective, as well as to express a critical opinion that contributes to the learning process. In this curricular integration work, the use of illustrated literature is proposed to promote reading comprehension at 3 levels (literal, inferential and critical) and reading from personal motivation. Within the illustrated literature are comics, manga and graphic novels, which like the rest of literary books there are different categories like science fiction, comedy, romance, among others. The research is carried out from the socio-critical paradigm. This is due to the participation of students to achieve a satisfactory development of reading comprehension. The qualitative approach and the action research method give way to participant observation through which the difficulties presented by the students in relation to reading comprehension are identified. In the course of this investigation, the proposal was applied in 3 sessions in which positive results were obtained, seeing a meaning improvement in their reading comprehension.
