Abstract
This research is aimed at enhancing reading comprehension in a student with intellectual disabilities, who presents certain difficulties in fluency, vocabulary and interpretation of what is read during the process, which is complex and involves the ability to interpret and understand the meaning of a text correctly. Therefore, the research question arises: How to develop reading comprehension in a student with intellectual disabilities? In order to achieve comprehension, the reader must activate previous knowledge, make inferences, identify the main idea, and connect concepts and details within the text, so that students acquire meaningful and emotional knowledge. This research is based on a qualitative approach and a single case study was used as a method, for the development of the same, different research techniques were used such as documentary review, participant observation and an interview. In correspondence with the techniques used, the instruments applied were: observation guide, field diaries and semi-structured interview scripts. The data collected were analyzed by means of the triangulation technique and as a result of the analysis, a system of activities to enhance reading comprehension in a student with intellectual disabilities (ID) is presented. It is essential, since it is adapted to the student's needs in order to improve his reading comprehension.
