Abstract
The present work of curricular integration arose after the whole process of formation that place within the career of Intercultural Bilingual Education of the UNAE. This research had the objective of strengthening the number sense of seventh grade students of the Intercultural Bilingual Community Education Center "Miguel Ignacio Cordero Moncayo" through the process of counting using the ethnomathematical resource 'yupana'. Since the students had problems solving addition and subtraction operations with decimals, the research question we posed was: How does the ethnomathematical didactic tool ‘yupana’ strengthen the number sense of 7th grade students of the Intercultural Bilingual Community Education Center “Miguel Ignacio Cordero Moncayo”? In this sense, it was proposed to implement an ethnomathematics didactic tool that would allow to fulfill the proposed objective. The research methodology was qualitative with an action research design, worked together with research techniques and tools that directly supported this approach. The information gathering techniques were: participant observation, field diaries, field notes, interviews and tests. With the purpose of fulfilling the objective of the research, a proposal was made in which activities and workshops for the creation of the yupanas by the students were proposed, as well as mathematical activities with situations of the environment were carried out during the proposal. The results obtained showed that the ethnomathematical didactic tool yupana can awaken the interest of the students, even the use of this tool strengthens the innate capacity they have on the development of mathematics operations, and that there is a different way to teach mathematics with materials from the environment.
