Abstract
The virtual study modality we are going through due to the COVID-19 health crisis, brought a number of educational consequences, among which is the decrease in motivation and inadequate levels of academic performance. To support the solution to this problem, it was proposed for this research project to apply the STEAM methodology to promote motivation and academic performance in the Herlinda Toral Educational Unit located in the city of Cuenca. Specifically in the General Unified High School, in the area of Biology, under the thematic unit "Ecology and population growth of human beings" under the current modality. Subsequently, the STEAM methodology was developed taking into account the diagnosis made. Finally, the effects of the implementation of the methodology on motivation and academic performance were evaluated through a comparison between the control group and the experimental group. It should be noted that the implementation of the methodology was developed in three phases; diagnostic, planning and application phase. As a result of the assessment, it became evident that the STEAM methodology is adequate to promote the levels of motivation and academic performance in students. This is due to the fact that an improvement of the variables was observed in the experimental group, while for the control group, the results were similar to the diagnostic phase of this research.
