Abstract
The objective of this article is to make known how art education in intercultural Ecuador is complemented with the contribution of Ethnomusicology. We propose approaches to what is proper to music and its status as a social fact from an epistemological, pedagogical and curricular point of view, based on experiences achieved with the management of ethnographic techniques in research carried out for more than twenty years in rituals and festivals by mestizo and indigenous sectors of Azuay and Cañar. This has allowed us to identify the importance of the meanings, uses and functions of artistic endeavor in various contexts for their understanding. The results of the investigation from this perspective, motivated us to generate proposals for the education in pedagogy of the arts for the students of the higher education level. The field of Arts Pedagogy, the competencies and skills that must nurture the Ecuadorian educational system, must come from this approach for a solid, comprehensive and critical training of future teachers. This reflection is nourished by the results of studies carried out in different contexts to publicize the ethnomusicological potentialities from the approach to artistic manifestations, which can be used by teachers in training. We consider that arts teachers must master competencies related to action research and ethnographic techniques in order to develop knowledge based on their own experiences, so that they implement contextualized curricular management.
