Abstract
This project aims to contribute to the learning of successions with arithmetic operations with natural numbers in the seventh year of Basic General Education through the active methodology of Problem Based Learning (PBL). The PBL methodology is intended to promote the academic performance of students, since this strategy promotes cooperative learning, research, critical reflection and the development and enhancement of human values such as solidarity, respect and responsibility. The research approach is mixed, the techniques and instruments are used to help collect data about the previous knowledge of Mathematics of the students. Also, the personal characteristics of the study group and interpersonal relationships in the classroom are ascertained. For each phase of the PBL, a group of activities are managed that are solved individually and in groups, which help in the development of Skills with the Performance Criteria of successions with arithmetic operations proposed in the Mathematics curriculum of the Middle Basic sub-level. Besides, students are supported in solving problems with teaching materials that allow them to consolidate concepts and above all acquire learning. In conclusion, the use of PBL helps students achieve knowledge about successions with basic arithmetic operations with natural numbers and improve academic performance.
