Abstract
The COVID-19 pandemic, which lasted for almost two years worldwide, has left a deep impact on education, affecting the teaching and learning of subjects, particularly the development of fundamental skills such as arithmetic operations, with a particular emphasis on multiplication, since this basic operation is crucial for the development of numerical sense. The transition to virtual education and the demands of the educational system have brought significant challenges for elementary school teachers; such as: lack of physical interaction, limited resources and insufficient family support were the factors that have impeded the effective learning of subjects, particularly mathematics. The current research project aimed to address the problem faced by sixth grade elementary school students at the Unidad Educative Particular American School, located in Cuenca, when performing basic operations (multiplication); the combination of pre-existing difficulties in the learning and meaning of multiplication and the exacerbated impact of the pandemic motivated us to explore effective strategies. This research focuses on analyzing the underlying causes of these difficulties and evaluating the potential of virtual tools such as Wordwall to improve the process of learning multiplication and its meanings. The results have been extremely successful, since we have observed a notable increase in our students' skill in understanding this fundamental area of mathematics. The interactivity and variety of resources that Wordwall offers have facilitated learning, keeping students engaged and motivated, this tool has proven to be a valuable asset in our pedagogical approach, significantly improving performance and understanding of multiplications in the classroom
