Abstract
This curricular integration work presents a proposal for an improvement plan to address the difficulties faced by 2nd BGU students in the understanding of basic mathematical concepts in rational numbers in the Roberto Rodas Educational Unit. The proposal is based on the theoretical contributions of Angulo, Arteaga and Carmenates (2020), who emphasize the importance of adequate teaching of mathematical concepts, and on the guidelines of the Ministry of Education of Ecuador (2012), which guide the structure of the improvement plan. Using a triangulated concurrent mixed approach and a pre-experimental design, pre-test and post-test were applied to 21 students, revealing that 57% presented initial deficiencies in fractions and combined operations. After the implementation of the plan, the students' average improved significantly, going from 4.74 to 6.63 out of 10, with 66% managing to correctly solve fraction problems. The satisfaction survey, measured on a scale of 1 to 10, reflected an average rating of 8.5, highlighting the dynamism of the activities as one of the most valued aspects. The students indicated that the proposed activities increased their active participation and their understanding of the concepts addressed. These results suggest that the improvement plan is effective and could be implemented in other educational contexts to improve mathematics learning.
