Abstract
Reading is a fundamental tool for the student to develop thinking and superior cognitive abilities such as reflection and criticism, which can be considered as the person who reads becomes a thinking, reflective and autonomous being contributing to personal enrichment when discovering new knowledge.
Through the design and implementation of the program "Tales narrated by my grandfather" focused on children of the fifth year of the Víctor Manuel Rendón School of Basic Education Valencia, an important tool is provided to improve the students' comprehensive and expressive capacity, using a resource that arouses their interest and through the different play activities that are developed from it, analysis, dialogue, critical thinking, creative writing and dramatization are achieved as strategies that demonstrate understanding.
