Abstract
The present research, titled “Exploratory Study of a Significant Educational Practice in Health Education Learning for Young People and Adults in the Canton of Chambo, Province of Chimborazo - Ecuador (2023-2024)”, analyzes an educational practice implemented in a rural context to promote self-care and medication management among older adults and young people. The objective is to characterize, identify, evaluate, and analyze the pedagogical strategies that have facilitated health learning, providing tools to improve health education in rural areas. Through a qualitative approach, semi-structured interviews, document review, and case analysis were used to explore a significant educational practice. The research is framed within the theories of Paulo Freire’s popular education and community participation, highlighting the empowerment of participants and their active role in managing their health. The results indicate that the use of simple language, visual tools, and innovative strategies significantly contributed to the understanding and application of self-care concepts. Additionally, challenges such as cognitive barriers, low educational levels, and geographical limitations that affect access to health services were identified. Finally, this research provides recommendations to optimize health education programs in Chambo and suggests the integration of health education into the EPJA curriculum. The findings can serve as a basis for improving public health policies aimed at rural communities with similar characteristics.
