Abstract
School dropout is a worrying situation that the rural sector is going through, aggravated by the Covid-2019 pandemic, which must be addressed decisively and responsibly, and in this sense, the present research aims to analyze the main factors influencing school dropout among young people and adults in the rural context of San Antonio-Pambilar – Morona Santiago in the period 2020-2021. In this research we used a qualitative research methodology, descriptive in nature, to obtain truthful, updated information that reflects the reality of the population under study. When applying this research methodology, it was obtained as a result that 33% of the students who dropped out of the school process were due to socioeconomic problems, either lack of economic resources or time. Likewise, personal problems, such as pregnancy, are considered as an important dimension for dropping out with 13%. In addition, problems related to institutional issues, such as, for example, the authoritarianism of teachers at the time of teaching classes, are considered with 8%. In this study, it was also possible to conclude that there are other reasons that influence students to drop out, such as the motivation of teachers towards students as a factor of great importance when deciding whether or not to abandon their studies. The conclusions obtained in the research process identified the main causes of school dropout in order to create a pedagogical proposal that allows the reinsertion of the population of Youth and Adults to the current educational system.
