Abstract
The parenting styles that parents exercise over their children have been and will continue to be fundamental for an optimal development and formation. In addition, the learning they obtain at home, they take to the classroom, generating a variety of styles that were forged in each family. Therefore, this research is called "The democratic parenting style in parents of children from 4 to 5 years old of the Educational Unit "Manuel J. Calle", Cuenca-Ecuador, since within the classroom it was found that there is an irregularity in the application of norms and rules by parents to their children. Therefore, the objective of this work is to contribute to a democratic parenting style through workshops. For this purpose, several theoretical references related to parenting styles were approached, such as: their definitions, importance, types and implications in child development and the role of the family and teacher. On the other hand, the case study was used as methodology and the socio-critical paradigm under a qualitative approach, the techniques used were: participant observation, interview, focus group and socio-metric test and its instruments were: the interview guide, the observation guide, the focus group guide and the Parenting Styles and Dimensions Question (PSDQ) test. The information obtained was then systematized, resulting in the conclusion that there is no defined parenting style, but more characteristics of the permissive style are highlighted. Therefore, the proposal called Educating ourselves: Workshops for parents and families was designed and, in order to check its effectiveness, the pilot evaluation guide was used. Therefore, it is concluded that, through the workshops, parents were able to expand their information and reflect on the topic, in order to improve their way of educating their children.
