Abstract
Observing the relationship between the teacher and students in a baccalaureate class, parallel “B”, in the Unidad Educative Communitarian Intercultural Bilingual “ABC”, we realized that students get distracted when dedicating too much time to social media: Facebook, TikTok and WhatsApp. Developed into threats to the teaching control, teachers tend to repress their use in the classroom; although, if they were well-employed, social media can offer benefits as didactic tools due to the density of social interaction that those generate, the creativity they foster and the net of learning they promote. Using social media as didactic tools allow teachers to take advantage of the interest that students demonstrate towards them, to use social media in the teaching-learning process in order to strengthen the school’s role in the retrieval of the indigenous community’s ancestral language where it has been lost. In order to achieve this goal, the presented research made the most of the students’ interest for the social media WhatsApp, TikTok and Facebook so teachers trained on their usage can use them effectively and culturally relevant as didactic tool in the development of communicative competences of the Kichwa language. The approach of the study was qualitative, the method was based on a combination of action research with ethnography, with a descriptive scope, conducted in the field for collecting data and applied it for its purposes. The main result of the research is that the communicative potential of social media can be useful and its ludic flexibility to promote an effective learning of the ancestral language.
