Abstract
The purpose of this research is to propose a speech therapy intervention system based on pictograms to compensate for the language delay in a student with intellectual disability in the tenth year of Basic Education at "Agustin Cueva Tamariz" school, through the observation and selection of the case it was evidenced that the individual of study presents difficulty in the language that is associated to his intellectual disability, with affectation in the articulation, expression, vocabulary, sociability, and understanding, which are aspects that prevent effective communication with the people of his academic environment. The research is adjusted to the interpretative hermeneutic paradigm, in which the single case study was applied as a research method, for the collection of information techniques and instruments were used such as documentary review through the analysis of the speech therapy record, the semi-structured interviews application with the teacher and participatory observation through field diaries, reaching a data analysis from the triangulation method; identifying the needs and potential of the individual of study. Based on the identified needs, a speech therapy intervention proposal called "I LOOK, I SHARE AND I LEARN" was designed, with various activities that contribute to the improvement of the student's communication with his immediate environment.
