Abstract
This paper explains the five levels of reading comprehension focused on Barrett's Taxonomy, which presents various definitions and conceptions of what comprehension is, and some theories and approaches to reading comprehension. In addition, this study references research carried out in different countries related to reading comprehension, mainly in Ecuador. The research is based on the case study method with a qualitative approach since this allowed the analysis of the sample constituted by one student. The information was gathered through instruments such as field diaries and teacher interviews. Likewise, several research techniques were applied as tests and the use of primary sources to know the student's reading comprehension level. The results showed that the learner presents a percentage of less than half incorrect answers according to the reading comprehension levels based on Barrett’s Taxonomy. Therefore, it is proposed to implement a digital book called "Cosechando Lecturas" to reach the reading comprehension level that students should obtain. Finally, after applying the proposal, it concluded that it is necessary to implement innovative resources such as the digital book because it helped to increase the student’s reading comprehension level, resulting in a higher percentage, unlike the first test.
