Abstract
This article presents some contributions of meaningful learning for the development of intercultural competences in Intercultural Bilingual Education, within the virtual teaching modality. In the Otavalo canton, mostly of Kichwa nationality, the isolation and lack of internet accessibility during the pandemic turns out to be an aggravating factor for the teaching Kichwa language. As a pedagogical support to this problem, a virtual learning community was created with 65 teachers, through which meaningful learning workshops were given to promote intercultural dialogue in Kichwa classes. The implementation of this virtual learning community favored the democratic and horizontal exchange of educational experiences and made teachers aware of the various social-community realities that students experience. The conclusions raise the need to expand this experience, involving other members of the communities, for a more enriching intercultural dialogue in educational space.
