Abstract
Literacy should sufficiently stimulate the child in his early years to reach the stage of reading corresponding to the level of education at an individual pace. The objective of this work is to improve the teaching-learning process in literacy through a didactic guide aimed at students of the middle basic level of the Unidad Educativa del Milenio Francisco Febres Cordero andean myths, same that can be motivating, because they are presented as novel, surprising and far from the traditional school curriculum. For this, a methodology with a qualitative approach was applied with a participatory action research method to propose combining theory and practice, achieving significant research. The research instruments were the documentary analysis, the participant observation and the semi-structured interview that consists of four questions applied to the students once the literacy proposal based on Andean myths has been implemented. As the most outstanding results, there is the great approval that was had before the reading of Andean myths, the interest presented by the students and their wide participation in the activities applied as proposed through the didactic guide.
