Abstract
The Ministry of Education states that educational institutions must train students with social responsibility and ability to interact in heterogeneous groups, however in practice it is difficult to achieve this with children with poorly developed social and group skills. The innovation project was developed with students of the seventh parallel year "D" of the Educational Unit "Tres de Noviembre" located in the province of Azuay, Cuenca canton, with the aim of promoting cooperative learning as a tool to strengthen the teaching process and learning mathematics. The main needs evidenced were the activities that prioritize individual work and the limited application of inclusive teaching methodologies. The project was developed under the line of educational innovation from UNAE "Specific teaching and innovative methodologies". The techniques and instruments that allowed the collection of information were the participant observation, the documentary analysis, the sociometry, the daily record, the worksheets, the observation guide, the interview guide, the self-assessment and co-evaluation form, the exam Diagnostic and evaluation exam. The results obtained show that the teacher, the students and the family consider that the participation of all the actors is a fundamental aspect in the implementation of a didactic strategy based on cooperative learning. The general conclusion of the project demonstrates that cooperative learning, in addition to energizing the teaching and learning process, helps to establish positive relationships among students.
