Abstract
This research was carried out in the “Amauta Ñanpi” Educational Unit located in the canton of Puyo, Pastaza province. The universe of study consisted of 76 students and 12 parents, of whom a sample of 19 students and 5 parents was taken. The selection criterion was the mastery of indigenous ancestral languages. The time spent on this research was 9 weeks corresponding to the pre-professional practices of the National University of Education. The general objective was to analyze the conditions under which multilingualism affects students' school performance and cohabitation. The problem detected was the difficulty students have to write in their language of cultural interrelation because they do not use writing in their daily lives and because they speak a mixed Spanish with Kichwa twists. The school tries to solve this problem by teaching Spanish grammar. The qualitative approach and ethnographic method were used in the methodological framework. The data collection tools were: the survey and unstructured interviews. The criterion for analyzing the data was the descriptive analysis given by Angrosino. To solve the problem raised it was suggested the creation of a learning community where through dialogue prejudices towards Indigenous languages will be destroyed and students will be free to speak and write in the language of their choice and achieve the bilingualism that the Ecuadorian education system aspires to.
