Abstract
Educational counseling is a professional technical function that guides managers from belief-based decision-making to purposeful and diagnostic-based decision making. The present investigation was carried out in the Educational Unit "Lauro Guerrero" of the city of Loja, with the purpose of analyzing the role of the educational advisor in the diagnosis of the pedagogical support needs. For this, a methodology with a qualitative approach was applied whose design is action research with the help of documentary analysis techniques, focus group and interview, with their respective instruments, which were applied to managers, members of the Academic Board and teachers. As more relevant results, it is highlighted that the educational institution does not have a diagnosis to identify the needs of teachers. In addition, it has been shown that some isolated activities of pedagogical accompaniment are carried out, because these do not respond to a plan that integrates and responds to the needs of their professional performance. In response to this reality, a methodological intervention proposal is proposed that contains a comprehensive diagnostic process entitled: "To diagnose is to innovate." In it, conventional and digital tools are provided that will allow this stage to be completed.
