Abstract
Internet social networks are positively or negatively associated with student academic performance. This document associated the impact of social networks on student academic performance of the 1st Technical and Science Baccalaureate “Paquishense”. It was based on the responses of students, teachers, and legal representatives; also in the general student academic record. The inductive-statistical method, quantitative, non-experimental, and cross-sectional approach was used. To answer the objectives, two questionnaires were applied: a survey for students, and an interview for teachers and representatives; A general academic record was also designed. We worked with a sample of 30 students, of both genders, with an average age of 16, applying inclusion and exclusion criteria. The analyzed sample confirmed spending time on social networks, teachers and legal representatives affirmed deterioration in participation and sociability respectively, and the academic record revealed detriment in the score of those who are most linked to the networks. It was concluded that there is an influence of social networks on the academic performance of students. A propositional guideline was designed and new lines of research were proposed.
