De la coeducación a una educación con perspectiva de género: abordaje de género en el subnivel superior de Educación General Básica

Abstract
This research seeks to incorporate the gender perspective in education to counter the situations of violence, inequality and discrimination reproduced by the coeducational proposal. For this reason, this work is based on theoretical contributions that have established that, although coeducation is a way of promoting formal equality, the reality in educational institutions is different. This is due to the fact that coeducation promotes sexist roles, stereotypes and imaginaries that, besides to putting women at a disadvantage, make invisible and discriminate against people in vulnerable situations or people with a sexual orientation and sex gender identity different from the heteronormative. The research was carried out in the ninth and tenth grade of EGB at the República del Ecuador High School, located in the city of Cuenca, Ecuador. The methodological development is based on a socio-critical paradigm, with a qualitative approach and the action research method, using data collection techniques and instruments to obtain adequate information for our research. Through the results obtained in the research we present a series of recommendations to promote the incorporation of the gender perspective in education in order to form conscious, inclusive, open-minded and respectful human beings to human diversity.
