Abstract
This research aims to develop verbal communication in a fourth-grade child with Autism Spectrum Disorder from a Specialized Educational Unit through a PECS. In the developed theoretical foundations, it is sustained that verbal communication in this population will always be affected, although with a degree of variability depending on the particularities of development, according to the authors who study the topic. To accomplish the objective, the Case Study methodology is used, within which elaborated techniques and instruments are applied, based on the operationalized indicators, according to the category of analysis, the information is analyzed and triangulated, obtaining an updated diagnosis on the state of verbal communication in the studied case, identifying limited initiative to communicate, language comprehension problems, predilection for the use of alternative language and serious difficulties for social interaction and emotional expression. In order to provide a response to the diagnosis, an image exchange system was designed through a PECS, which has fundamentals and methodologies that guide the procedure in its application, here a didactic structure is presented in sections, objectives, phases, activities , resources, time, illustrations and the evaluation of the indicators under study; The proposal stands out for its innovative character as it integrates the components of language in order to improve the child's verbal communication.
