Abstract
The objective of this research is to analyze how game-based activities accompanied by the phases of mathematical development influence the teaching-learning process of the composition and decomposition of natural numbers in students of second grade "A" of EGB of the "República del Ecuador" Educational Unit. Therefore, it aims to encourage active participation and provide a meaningful and interesting experience in the construction of mathematical knowledge through game-based learning. From another perspective, the phases of mathematical development that allude to the concrete, pictorial and symbolic seek to improve the understanding of numerical notions, the positional value (ten and unit) and the composition - decomposition of natural numbers. Therefore, the methodological process of this project is based on the socio-critical paradigm, through the qualitative approach with descriptive research design and action research method. In addition, to implement various techniques and instruments for the collection of information before and after the implementation of the proposal. Consequently, the research concludes that the combination of game-based learning with the phases of mathematical development (concrete, pictorial and symbolic) provides greater opportunities for the development and consolidation of learning of the subtopics related to the composition and decomposition of natural numbers. This combination also creates a playful environment for student learning, in which error is a fundamental part of the construction of knowledge.
