Abstract
Reading comprehension is the fundamental pillar of learning, for an adequate academic development not only in language and literature, since it is essential in all subjects and in everyday life. During the pre-professional practices, the problem in this area is identified when observing that the students, in spite of reading a text many times, have difficulty in understanding it. The objective of the research is to know the reading comprehension levels of fourth year students of the Millennium Educational Unit "Francisco Febres Cordero" through the application of the ACL-4 test, based on Barret's reading comprehension levels. The methodology is based on the naturalistic interpretative paradigm, with a qualitative-quantitative approach. The techniques used for the collection of information are the interview and the observation guide, the instruments are field diaries and the reading comprehension test ACL-4, which consists of 34 questions. The research has a sample of 32 students of fourth year of basic general education parallel "A" to whom the test was applied, as a general result it is obtained that most of them present a low level of comprehension with 81% and only 15% reach a level within normality. Based on the analysis of the results, an activity guide is proposed to reinforce reading comprehension in its literal, reorganizing, inferential, critical and appreciative levels.
