Abstract
Non-verbal communication constitutes one of the essential aspects in the lives of people who have difficulties interacting with others since it has allowed them to express their ideals and have their needs met. The purpose of this research is to develop the non-verbal communication of a student with cerebral palsy at the Instituto de Parálisis Cerebral del Azuay, since when he presents problems in his communication, the interaction with the environment is affected due to the difficulty that people have to interpret the non-verbal signs they use and to solve their needs. This work has considered several authors to theoretically base non-verbal communication. The study is designed under the interpretive paradigm, because the aim is to learn more about the reality of the object of study, it is based on a qualitative approach and uses the phases of the single case study as a methodology. The techniques and instruments used to characterize the case were the following: observation, field diary, observation guide, interview, and interview guide. With the results obtained in the methodological framework, an intervention proposal is proposed based on an image exchange communication system (PECS), which is composed of several activities that will contribute to the solution of the problem. Finally, the conclusions are presented as a response to the specific objectives set, recommending that the use of this system be extended to technology as it will allow the student to develop in various contexts.
