Abstract
This research has as purpose to know how the infants of the grades 4 "B" and "C" of the sublevel II of Initial Education at the Center of Initial Education "City of Cuenca" construct their gender roles; considering the notions of reproduction and resistance as a fundamental part of this process. In this work, children are recognized as active agents of this construction and not as passive persons who only receive and reproduce roles. The study has a qualitative approach, based on a school ethnography within the CEI "City of Cuenca". In addition to a participant observation, interviews will be made with a probationary teacher and a volunteer of the institution, also participant techniques will be applied with the students; these will allow to obtain information to know how gender roles are constructed in the context of Initial Education in Cuenca, Ecuador. The research also seeks to highlight how gender roles can influence the decisions and academic interests of children, as well as the opportunities offer in the school context. In addition, it aims to generate a critique and reflection on how the school deal with gender as a transversal concept.
